Marley Park is unusual for this valley in that it was designed around trees. The DMB-developed community covers close to 950 acres near Waddell Road and Bullard Avenue, welcomed its first residents in 2005, and set aside more than 140 acres of parks and open space — fifteen themed parks connected by an arbor walk, on streets deliberately planted for canopy rather than for gravel.

The one thing that ties it back to the rest of the valley is the monsoon. A dense canopy of fast-grown desert trees on irrigated lots produces exactly the failure mode a summer downburst exploits, and this community sees more storm-damage calls than its acreage would suggest.
A canopy that was planted, not inherited
Trees on irrigated urban lots grow faster and root shallower than the same species on dry ground, which is why a twenty-year-old planted canopy behaves differently from a wild stand. Is a tree in my front yard here protected under state law?
It can be. Arizona's protected native plant categories follow the species, not the setting, so a mesquite, palo verde, or ironwood planted as a landscape tree is covered the same way a wild one is. Non-native ornamentals are not. Establishing which you have before scheduling a removal saves an awkward delay.
Can equipment get into a back yard on these lots?
Usually only compact equipment, and often nothing at all.
